Principal Advisor, Policy & Planning Division - Ministry of Defence (Wellington based)

The Ministry of Defence is the Government’s principal civilian advisor on Defence matters; giving civilian advice on defence matters to enhance New Zealand’s security.

Currently The Ministry is seeking a driven and experienced Principal Advisor to fill a vacancy in the Policy and Planning Division’s Development Branch.

The Policy and Planning Division, in consultation with the New Zealand Defence Force, provides advice on defence policy matters. Within this, the Development Branch advises the Minister and Cabinet on military capability projects and programmes in the phases prior to acquisition. Tasks include strategic and technical analysis of capability requirements, problem definition and the preparation of indicative, detailed, implementation, and programme business cases.

This role requires a motivated person with a postgraduate degree and senior-level policy experience; someone who’s comfortable exercising sound judgement in a senior role and has the project management experience to back it up.
