Background
- The Minister of Defence Awards of Excellence to Industry were established in 1998 by the Defence Industry Committee of New Zealand (DICNZ) to highlight and reward the contribution made by industry to Defence.
- The Awards are presented annually by the Minister of Defence. The presentation of the awards takes place at the awards dinner in Wellington, which concludes the NZDIA Defence Industry Forum.
- The award is an engraved trophy which past winners have been able to use to good effect in their marketing efforts.
Award structure
- There are three award categories:
Category A
Category A recognises excellence by major suppliers of equipment or services to the New Zealand Defence Force or Ministry of Defence in excess of $7 million or with through-life support costs in excess of $25 million.
Category B
Category B recognises excellent lower level suppliers who have provided goods and services below $7 million or with through-life costs less than $25 million.
Category C
Category C recognises New Zealand suppliers who have provided the New Zealand Defence Force, through the overseas prime contractors, with high level goods and services.
- The intention of the categories is to provide a means of measuring like companies performance against each other. Awards may not necessarily be made in all categories and there may be more than one award per category.
