The Royal New Zealand Navy
Organisational Structure of the Royal New Zealand Navy
The Royal New Zealand Navy is headed by the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Peter McHaffie, OBE, who reports to the Chief of Defence Force.
Chief of Naval Staff has oversight of the Maritime Component Commander at Headquarters Joint Forces New Zealand.
The Maritime Component Commander is responsible for:
- the Naval Combat Forces
- the Naval Support Forces
- the Mine Countermeasures
- Diving and Diving Support Forces
- Naval Control of Shipping Forces
- the Hydrographic Forces.
The Chief of Navy is also responsible for the Deputy Chief of Navy.
The Deputy Chief of Navy is responsible for Naval Staff which is made up of:
- Development
- Personnel
- Material
- Inspector General (Navy)
The Deputy Chief of Navy is also responsible for Naval Support Command (Auckland).
The Deputy Chief of Navy is also responsible for Bases and Establishments which is made up of:
- HMNZS Ngapona (Auckland)
- HMNZS Olphert (Wellington)
- HMNZS Pegasus (Christchurch)
- HMNZS Toroa (Dunedin).
