Legal Analysis of New Zealand Defence Legislation
1990
The diagram outlines the organisational structure adopted for defence in 1990. The new organisational represented a major departure from past practice. The Minister of Defence was now advised by two lines - the Chief of Defence Force and the Secretary of Defence. The Chief of the Defence Force headed the New Zealand Defence Force organisation. The next layer was the Chiefs of Staff Committee, which was supported by the staff of the three service chiefs. The Secretary of Defence headed the Ministry of Defence.
