Figure 2: Utility of vessel options within geographic zones
This figure illustrates the utility of vessel options within geographic zones. There are three zones – New Zealand; South Pacific/Southern Ocean/Ross Sea; and Regional/Global. These are shown as vertical bars and the four vessel options as horizontal bars running across the vertical geographic bars. The vessel options are: naval combat force; multi-role vessel; offshore patrol vessel and inshore patrol vessel. The naval combat force option spans all three vertical geographic zones. The multi-role vessel horizontal bar runs from about halfway through the New Zealand vertical bar across the South Pacific/Southern Ocean bar and about a quarter of the way into the Regional/Global vertical bar. The offshore patrol vessel horizontal bar runs from about a quarter of the way into the New Zealand vertical bar and about a third of the way into the South Pacific/Southern Ocean bar. While the inshore patrol vessel horizontal bar occupies the left-hand half of the New Zealand vertical bar.
