Strategic direction: High level and intermediate outcomes

The Ministry has two outcomes:

• New Zealand is Secure
• the Security of other nations is enhanced by New Zealand's efforts.

Supporting these outcomes are some intermediate-level outcomes, which provide the link between what the Ministry does and what it is endeavouring to achieve. These intermediate-level outcomes are:

• New Zealand identifies all credible military threats to its security environment
• New Zealand's military capabilities are aligned to our requirements
• New Zealand's defence relationships are aligned with our security interests and foreign policy goals
• New Zealand's military deployments support our regional and wider international objectives.

In achieving these outcomes, the Ministry undertakes activities, which are allocated to one of three output classes:

• Management of equipment procurement
• Policy advice
• Audit and assessment of performance.
