Defence Midpoint Rebalancing Review 2013
The Defence Midpoint Rebalancing Review was undertaken to achieve a long-term balance between defence policy, capability and funding. This review was undertaken by a team of military and civilian staff from the New Zealand Defence Force, Ministry of Defence, Treasury, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. The team costed all of the component parts of the Defence Force out to 2030, from front-line military capabilities to the support elements of the organisation. It created a detailed, long-term vision on how to deliver on the Government’s policy expectations set out in the Defence White Paper 2010.
The review led to the Government significantly increasing operational funding. The Minister of Defence’s press release is available from the Beehive website: http://www.beehive.govt.nz/release/budget-2014-investing-1009m-defence.
