Extreme Fire: A Changing Threat Landscape and Implications for New Zealand Defence
This Defence Assessment takes a snapshot of the issue of extreme fire and climate change, and the New Zealand Defence Force's role in supporting Fire and Emergency New Zealand when called upon.
Extreme fire is an issue that can have broad impacts on the security of New Zealand, and the security of our partners in the region and further afield. Following the Climate Crisis: Defence Readiness and Responsibilities in 2018, this snapshot provides an overview of how climate change is exacerbating extreme fire, and the role the NZDF has played in supporting Fire and Emergency New Zealand and international partners in times of need.
