United Nations Command (UNC) and United Nations Command Military Armistice Commission (UNCMAC).
The NZDF currently has personnel deployed to the United Nations Command (UNC) in the Republic of Korea (ROK). The UNC is a multinational body established in 1950 to restore peace and security on the Korean Peninsula. The primary purpose of the UNC today is to facilitate inter-Korean diplomacy, monitoring the armistice agreement signed at the end of the Korean War, and to maintain stability on the Korean Peninsula.
Up to 51 NZDF personnel are deployed at any one time to the UNC and UNC Military Armistice Commission (UNCMAC) supporting various functions, including the development of plans, orders and concepts of operations for activities on the Korean Peninsula. As part of this deployment, the NZDF also regularly participates in training activities alongside the ROK, US, and other partners on the Korean Peninsula.
The mandate for this deployment expires on 30 September 2028.
