This publication provides documents on Cabinet's March 2018 agreement to deploy two Royal New Zealand Navy Patrol Vessels to Fiji in 2018. The comprises:

  • the Cabinet minute of decision: Further Deployment of Royal New Zealand Navy Patrol Vessels to Fiji in 2018 [CAB-18-MIN-0089]
  • the Cabinet paper Further Deployment of Royal New Zealand Navy Patrol Vessels to Fiji in 2018  [CAB-18-SUB-0089].

Certain information has been withheld form the documents, in accordance with the following provisions of the Official Information Act 1982, where the making available of the information would be likely to:

  • prejudice the security or defence of New Zealand or the international relations of the Government of New Zealand (section 6(a))
  • prejudice the entrusting of information to the Government of New Zealand on a basis of confidence by the Government of any other country or any agency of such a Government (section 6(b)(i)), or any international organisation (section 6(b)(ii)).

Certain information is also withheld in order to maintain the effective conduct of public affairs through the free and frank expression of opinions by or between Ministers of the Crown or members of an organisation or officers and employees of any departments or organisations in the course of their duty (section 9(2)(g)(i)).
