Operation Solomon Islands Assistance
Personnel: Four New Zealand Defence Force personnel are currently deployed (as at 8 June 2022)
The New Zealand Defence Force are deployed to Solomon Islands as Pacific-led Solomon Islands International Assistance Force (SIAF).
The SIAF deployed to Honiara from late November 2021 to support the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in restoring peace and stability following a period of civil unrest. The SIAF has since continued to support the RSIPF to maintain peace and stability including through community engagement and reassurance. The New Zealand Defence Force personnel deployed operate alongside their New Zealand Police colleagues to achieve this.
The SIAF comprises personnel from Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, and Papua New Guinea.
On 25 May 2022 the mandate for this deployment was for 12 months and will be reviewed by 31 May 2023.
