Operation Solomon Islands Assistance
Personnel: Four New Zealand Defence Force personnel are currently deployed (as at 3 July 2023)
The New Zealand Defence Force are deployed to Solomon Islands as part of the regionally-led Solomon Islands International Assistance Force (SIAF).
The SIAF deployed to Honiara from late November 2021 to support the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) in restoring peace and stability following a period of civil unrest. The SIAF has since continued to support the RSIPF to maintain peace and stability including through community engagement and reassurance.
The SIAF comprises personnel from Australia, Fiji, and New Zealand.
In May 2023 the mandate for this deployment was extended for seven months and will be reviewed again by 31 December 2023.
