Minister of Defence Awards recognise impact, innovation

Defence Minister Judith Collins KC and Associate Defence Minister Chris Penk have revealed the recipients of this year's Minister of Defence Awards of Excellence to Industry at an event at Parliament this evening.

In her comments, Judith Collins said the work of this year’s award winners advances the security and economic prosperity of New Zealand and New Zealanders.

“Your work not only strengthens New Zealand’s defence capabilities – it demonstrates the highest standards, skills, innovation and impact on communities throughout New Zealand,” said Ms Collins.

Ten businesses and individuals have won an award this year. They include the company that constructed the new P-8A Poseidon maritime surveillance aircraft facility at Base Ohakea called Te Whare Toroa, an augmented and virtual reality developer who built simulated training courses with the Royal New Zealand Navy, and the New Zealand and Tongan-based company that built the Pacific Leadership Development Programme classrooms and fale in Tonga.

Category A - Prime Contractor of the Year – Hawkins

Category B - Sub-Contractor or Small to medium enterprise of the Year for Product (two winners) –Build N Concrete and Seipp Construction

Category C - Sub-Contractor or SME of the Year for service: Sysdoc Group

Tū Tika (Commitment) (two winners) - Krystal Paraone (StaplesVR) and Rodney Bosch (PAE)
