Cyber Security and Support Capability

In November 2025 the Government announced $53 million investment to enhance the NZDF’s ability to defend against cyber threats when deployed.

Current cyber security systems need continuous investment to ensure the NZDF can defend networks from new and emerging threats.

This is the first stage of a programme to enhance cyber security capabilities as outlined in the Defence Capability Plan, with investment in software, hardware and personnel. It includes funding for software to support the detection, analysis and response to cyber threats as well as an increase in military cyber specialists.

Defence will be engaging with three New Zealand companies to support this programme of work, including on the Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) system for cyber security.

Companies will be named once contracts have been finalised.
