United Nations Truce Supervision Organisation (UNTSO) is the United Nations' oldest peacekeeping mission. UNTSO plays an important role in monitoring ceasefires, de-escalating tensions, and supporting other peacekeeping missions in the region.

The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) has been a longstanding supporter of UNTSO, having contributed since 1954. The NZDF contributes to UNTSO’s monitoring function through the deployment of up to eight military observers, principally based in the Golan Heights, Lebanon and Syria. Through this mission, New Zealand promotes adherence to ceasefires and armistice agreements and contributes to well-established efforts that foster regional stability.
