Submissions for the Defence White Paper 2016
This document publicly releases copies of the submissions as part of the public consultation for the Defence White Paper 2016. Certain information has been withheld, consistent with the Official Information Act, in order to: protect the privacy of natural persons (section 9(2)(a) of the Act) protect information where the making available of information would be unlikely reasonably to prejudice the commercial position of the person who supplier or who is the subject of the information (section 9(2)(b)) protect information which is subject to an obligation of confidence, where the making available of information would be likely to prejudice the supply of similar information or information from the same source, and it is in the public interest that subject information should continue to be supplied (section 9(2)(ba)(i)). A separate summary of the submission is available: Defence White Paper 2016 Public Summary of Submissions. The Defence White Paper public consultation process was undertaken from May to June 2015. Over 300 submissions were received and 12 public meetings held around New Zealand. It was supported by the Defence White Paper 2015 Public Consultation Document, which is available separately.

Hazardous substances: Management in the New Zealand Defence Force
An audit of how well the Defence Force manages hazardous substances, which includes things like ammunition, explosives, gases, flammable liquids and toxic material. The audit is a legal requirement and is undertaken approximately every three years.

Review of the Iraq Deployment
On 21 March 2016, the Government reviewed New Zealand's deployment to the Building Partner Capacity mission. The review highlighted that the joint Australia-New Zealand Building Partner Capacity training mission is performing well and is achieving the objectives set out in the Cabinet decision of February 2015.

Recruit training: Assessing the quality of recruit training in the New Zealand Defence Force
Aspects of initial training for new recruits that work well and how the system could be improved. The review found that while training programmes are demanding, both physically and mentally, most recruits find the experience positive.
